Dock Staff

Vasiliy Gusev
Vasiliy has worked at the BSC off and on over the past 4 years.  He currently owns sailboat Katrina, a Dubois 46.  He has over 250,000 nautical miles of sailing experience including two circumnavigations and traveled to over 45 countries. During the summers he lives on Katrina with his wife at the Boston Sailing Center. Vasiliy knows more than almost anyone here about boat maintenance and has kept our fleet up and running throughout the height of our season.  He is originally from Russia and has been living the cruising lifestyle for over 25 years.

Gus Lindsay
Gus hails from Pictou, Nova Scotia, and has been a lifelong sailor. He had a stint in the Canadian Coast Guard, doing search and rescue, and continues to keep in touch with the sailing culture of our neighbor to the north. When he's not building docks or repairing our boats, Gus is a technology consultant and plays a lot of, you guessed it, hockey.

Maxwell Kaye
Max has been working on the dock and maintenance crew for the past 3 years and has quickly become an unwavering member of the team.  He is always a large help to any boats that have stopped functioning to their “max” capacity. Max graduated from Vassar College in 2009 and has since loved the BSC too much to leave.  When not working on the docks Max enjoys sailing with his friends.

Phoebe Hart
Phoebe has been a quintessential member of our dock staff for the past two seasons.  She started off as a launch driver but as quickly excelled into boat maintenance and repair, as well as her favorite task getting our moorings squeaky clean. Phoebe has even been known to jump into the harbor to un-foul a prop! Now that is dedication. She attends Suffolk University and when not working, she can be found surfing or enjoying living in the North End with her friends.

Ivan Gusev
Ivan has worked on and off at the BSC during the last few years and is living with his parents during the summer on their cruising boat Katrina, which is docked next to our Riverboat. He lives and works in Miami at a mortgage brokerage firm throughout most of the year but thoroughly enjoys spending his summers on Boston Harbor. Ivan possesses a tremendous amount of experience, including one circumnavigation, which he uses on our docks as part of the maintenance crew, as well as teaching our sailing courses. He does a fantastic job at conflating the two demanding positions at the BSC.

Brian Wheeler
Brian has worked in our maintenance yard in East Boston for the past 2 years and has recently made the move across the harbor to become one of our best dock staff. Brian is very knowledgeable in many aspects of boat maintenance and is extremely proficient at engine and fiberglass work.  Many days of the week, even in our very hot and humid weather, he can be found working in a sporty tyvex suit. Outside of work, Brian enjoys painting and using his artistic talents in many different mediums.

Chad Edwards
Chad has been working on our docks this summer and has picked up quickly on the multiple intricacies of our boat maintenance.  He has certainly turned into a large presence on the docks, but unfortunately he will only be with us for the summer as Chad is headed back to University of Denver in September for his sophomore year. He has grown up sailing many boats with his family and is enjoying the sport of sailing more and more each year.  Chad loves to play sports and has played many varsity seasons of football, ice hockey, and lacrosse.  He continues to play in summer leagues and loves to spend time with his friends on the cape or in New Hampshire.

Jesse Munitz-Alessio
Jesse is back from Vassar College for his third season at the BSC. Jesse is an important member of the crew, driving launch and maintaining the solings, sonars, J24s and Olson 25s. Having done some sailing of his own, including cruising on the Maine coast, the Chesapeake Bay and Long Island Sound, he appreciates sailing for what it is, stating "the simutaneous silence and speed" are most satisfying. At the BSC, Jesse appreciates the atmosphere and diversity of club. He is looking forward to another fantastic summer!
